The California Dispute Resolution Council is a statewide, non -profit organization comprised of commercial and non-commercial Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR") neutrals, providers and educators. Our members range from the largest ADR organizations to individual and community practitioners. Our membership includes organizations and individuals who use ADR services and want to preserve ADR as an accessible, efficient, and effective means of dispute resolution. Through our fulltime lobbyist in Sacramento and the volunteer efforts of members, we develop, support, and influence legislation and public policies promoting effective and accessible conflict resolution.

On October 13, 2006 CDRC announced that in honor of The Straus Institute's 25th anniversary it was creating an annual prize to be given to the student at the Institute who demonstrated "Excellence in Dispute Resolution."  Michael A. Patterson's paper was entitled, An Evaluation of Hurricane Katrina Homeowners Program Administered by The Louisiana Department of Insurance. The paper was an independent study submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of LL.M. in Dispute Resolution.

1:30 - 2:30pm

Concurrent

Sessions

Community Mediation: Care and Feeding Join CCCM dialogue leaders discussing relevant issues creating partnerships with government, other non-profits and private industry, charging fees for services, expanding and diversifying services being offered and managing the relationship between volunteer and compensated mediators.

Closing the Deal in the Wake of Fair v. Bakhtiari Settlement agreements executed at the close of a mediation are usually bare boned and contemplate the preparation and execution of a more detailed agreement at a later date. This sometimes causes the deal to fall apart. The panelists will propose several methods designed to help neutrals and advocates preserve the mediation deal.

2:40 - 4:00pm

Concurrent

Sessions

ADR Providers: Shaping Our Industry Join the leading ADR Providers to discuss ethical, legal and economic impacts neutral organizations have on both the dispute resolution industry and the independent neutral professionals. What rules, both statutory and self imposed, do providers adhere to and what responsibility do these organizations have to the public, the process and the parties.

Collaborative Law: Beyond Family Law Collaborative law is the next big thing. It has already taken off in family law across the country and new applications are being pursued in probate, medical malpractice and other areas of the law. Panelists will introduce you to the history and principles of collaborative law and sketch out the future of this exciting development in dispute resolution.
