ADR PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Position Overview
The United States District Court for the Central District of California invites applications for a full-time Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program Director position. The ADR Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Court’s ADR program. Duties of this position include designing, implementing, administering, and evaluating ADR programs; educating litigants, lawyers, and court staff about ADR programs; overseeing the court’s panel of attorney settlement officers; serving as research attorney to the court’s ADR Committee; and supervising ADR Office staff. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to act as a neutral in selected cases. The duty station for this position is the Spring Street Courthouse in Los Angeles.
Minimum Qualifications Requirements
Applicants must have substantial legal experience, with federal court litigation experience strongly preferred. Bar membership is required. Mediation training, thorough knowledge of ADR processes, and skill and experience serving as a mediator are required. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, as well as the ability to work closely with judges, lawyers, neutrals, parties, and court staff. Program management experience is preferred. Applicants must be computer literate. No private law or ADR practice is permitted concurrent with the position.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be set based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The annual salary range for this position is $86,155 - $140,020 per year.
Federal benefits include paid vacation and sick leave; health, life, dental, vision, disability, and long term care insurance plans; retirement; matching and tax-deferred Thrift Savings Plan; and paid holidays. A telework option may be available for some portion of the full-time schedule.
Due to the anticipated volume of applications, the Court will only communicate with those individuals who will be interviewed for the position. Interested persons must submit a resume or curriculum vitae, the names of at least three references (at least two of which should be from former employers), and a statement of interest detailing a) the applicant’s mediation training and experience, including the types of cases mediated and the approximate number of mediations hosted; b) the applicant’s program management experience; and c) the applicant’s understanding of court-annexed ADR and its role in civil case management.
